Database Management System (DBMS): A Database management system is a software application specifically designed to allow interaction between users, software applications and one or more databases. These systems allow for the definition, creation, querying, reporting, updating, and administration of databases. Well-known DBMSs include: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLLite, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Access, Oracle, SAP, dBASE, FoxPro, IBM DB2 and Filemaker.
