Truck Safety Expert:
Connecticut's "Ice Missile" Law Goes Into Effect.

Truck Safety Expert Articles

by Scott Greene

On January 1st, 2014 drivers in Connecticut faced a new law designed to make driving safer, the “Ice Missile” law.

In the works for over four years, the Connecticut legislature finally pushed through new legislation that would require motorists to clean off all the snow and ice from their cars before driving.

Basically the law says that motorists who fail to remove “accumulated snow and ice from the hood, trunk and roof of his or her motor vehicle so that it does not pose a threat to people or property while the vehicle is being operated on a state street or highway”.

Passenger cars can be hit with a $75 fine for not clearing the snow from their cars and if the ice or snow from a non-commercial vehicle happens to cause personal injury or property damage, the penalty can jump up to $1,000. Commercial vehicles who fail to clean their vehicles, face fines of $500 to $1,250 if any damage is caused.
